A few comments on Day 1 of what promises to be another painful offseason.
-Is anyone really that "shocked" and "stunned" at what Anaheim did to us? The media has no clue, they see a team that plays too late to bother watching, but that won the President's Trophy... they must be great right? I actually heard one pundit say on the eve of the playoffs, "the way this team (the Sharks) roared into the playoffs, other teams will be hard pressed to stop them." Uh, what? I think we've all (here on the west coast) seen the gradual decline since January and whether we wanted to admit it or not, could feel this "upset" coming.
-Don't blame Doug Wilson. I've been hearing some rumblings about how the Wilson regime needs to be put to pasture yada yada. Bullshit. This guy has brought every possible piece of the puzzle and then some. Dougie is a top rate GM and ownership would be Ehrhoff stupid to let him go.
-Don't blame Todd McLellan. I honestly think the jury is out on him. Let him stick around and help in the (hopefully) impending rebuild.
-There are only four current Sharks I want to see in teal next year. There are a few others I'm indifferent about, and a few that I feel strongly need to kick rocks and leave town. The four that need to stay: Boyle (with a C), Pavs, Clowe, and Mitchell. Heart, heart, heart, and more heart.
-The three I don't want to see back are our franchise leader in points, franchise leader in goaltending wins, and the most naturally gifted player to ever put on a Sharks uni. Patty, Nabby and Big Joe. Thanks guys, it's been fun, good luck. These guys are top regular season players, and first rate stinkers in the playoffs. I would rather see us restock our prospect cupboard with some promising prospects and not make the playoffs next season than look forward to another year of this. Because believe it: These guys will never, ever, win a Stanley Cup as the keystone leaders of their team.
-JR and Blakey. If they come back, great, but they're not going to be around long enough to help this team win a Cup. That's a ways off.
-Yeah, I'm bummed, but I don't think these moves would be over-reactions. Does anyone want to find themselves next April thinking, hey I haven't heard Thornton's name for the last 20 minutes? Or look at a 2 or 3 point performance by Patty and wonder where that was in games 1-3? Or watch another weak 5 hole goal against number 20?
-Mike O'Connell and Ron Wilson must be laughing their asses off right now.
-Ah, onto following the A's, the team with little talent but a drive and passion to not only win but just make the big leagues. Infinitely more fun to watch than multi-millionaire pushovers wasting time between tee times.
i dunno theodore...i think you needed to wait a couple more weeks before making assessments like these but generally i agree with you.
-yeah sharks peaked wayyyy too early, about 4 -5 months too early
-yeah coaches need more than 1 year to be judged
-im all in favor of keeping the band togetherfor 1 more year. i base this on countless examples in sports where a team disappoints and then next year when they win the championship, the fans are thinking THIS is the team thats gonna win it for us??? see-2006 st louis cardinals
-sharks just need more guys like owen nolan, mike ricci, bryan marchment. namely, guys like jr who have heart but guys who are in their prime, ie not just there to provide leadership. i threw in marchment there cuz yeah people might think he was a cheapshot, but think mike modano was happy to see that guy in the playoffs? knee to knee anyone? guys like thornton and marleau are just naturally nice and cant be someone who theyre not. and you cant expect guys like jr to provide the mean streak, dudes pushing 40 and was really only there for his voice
-and lastly SHARKS FANS i still believe its in the cards for you guys. having said that dont be the franchise that has the psycho reactionary fanbase. trust that doug wilsons gonna do the right moves and keep the core together.
The internet's 4th most popular fart joke-based acapella-rap-funk-comedy San Jose Sharks blog.
Just so you know, I often use words that your mother would not approve of. Why? Because swearing is funny, and comedy is hard. So either learn to love the f***ing jokes or hope that I get funnier.
